Topic: Confined Space – Unique Hazards and Urban Legends
We all know that a confined space is large enough to fit in, not designed for continuous occupancy, and has limited means of entry/egress. This talk will go beyond that on some myths about entry and permitting and discussion on some hazards that may be overlooked when you put a person in a confined space.
Speaker: Bruce Donato
Speaker Bio: Bruce Donato is a principal with K & A First Aid and Safety providing safety consulting and emergency preparedness services for many industries. Most recently he has been lecturing nationally about the pandemic including how to prepare for the next phase and how to return to work.
Mr. Donato is very active in many EHS associations. He has been the president of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP), the Chair of the AIHA Local Section Council, and the Deputy RVP of ASSP Region VI at the national and regional levels. Locally he has held every position in multiple ASSP chapters. He is the vice president on the NOVA-ASSP Board and an officer locally in biosafety, construction safety, hazardous materials management, and industrial hygiene.
He holds a BSE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and has over 35 years of industrial experience. He has worked in the federal government and for chemical, textile, and biotechnology companies including DuPont, Hoechst Celanese, and Life Technologies. Mr. Donato is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Certified Ergonomics Compliance Director (CECD), Emergency Responder Instructor, and Instructor Trainer for the American Heart Association, and the American Safety Institute. He is also a Zenger-Miller Instructor and trained facilitator. In addition to his safety experience, Mr. Donato has held positions as a design engineer, plant supervisor, research engineer, distribution manager, laboratory supervisor and facilities manager.
