Presentation Overview:
This presentation on the safety professional and codes will be engaging and fast paced. NFPA 101 and the companion codes and NFPA standards have direct benefits and consequences on the professional work site, workers, and safety professionals. Topics that will be covered include: Overall site/facility fire and life safety, Building and Fire Code requirements for new and existing buildings, storage (active and static) requirements including hazardous materials, Emergency Preparedness and drills, New and Emerging Challenges (Li-Ion batteries, Links between NFPA and the adopted codes, etc), and finally some time for Q&A.
Speaker Bio:
Chief Jarman has over 32 years of experience in Fire and Rescue. Prior to that he was a Combat Engineer and explosives expert in the US Army. Chief Jarman has an A.A.S. in Emergency Medical Services and a B.S. In Emergency Management. He is a National Registered Paramedic and holds professional certifications from the National Association of Fire Investigators, International Association of Arson Investigators, and as a Fire Code Official through Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, among others. He has served leadership roles in all divisions throughout the Prince William County (VA) Department of Fire and Rescue including Operations, Training, EMS Operations, Emergency Management, and most recently the Fire Marshal’s Office for over 10 years. A strong advocate for community outreach and safety, Chief Jarman is a recognized regional, state, national, and international speaker on a variety of topics. He is the recipient of several awards over his tenure and strives to ensure the public and professionals are safe in their endeavors. Chief Jarman insists on a practical approach to codes and codes requirements that cater to the interests of industry, safety professionals, and the public at large.
