Workplace Safety behind the Landmarks: A Tour of the Library of Congress

  •  February 27, 2026
     2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

SSP National Capital Chapter invites our members to a guided tour of the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill. The Library of Congress is the United States’ (U.S.) oldest federal cultural institution and the largest library in the world. It serves as the research arm of the U.S. Congress and the home of the U.S. Copyright Office.

Led by team members from the Architect of the Capitol’s Library Building and Grounds jurisdiction, participants will get an up-close look at some of the most iconic indoor spaces in Washington, D.C. from the perspective of a safety professional.

The tour will start and end at the Independence Avenue entrance to the James Madison Memorial Building of the Library of Congress (address listed above). After the tour concludes, attendees are invited to join National Capital Chapter for a happy hour off-site.

SECURITY SCREENING IS REQUIRED TO ENTER LIBRARY OF CONGRESS FACILITIES.

The U.S. Capitol Police maintains a list of items prohibited from entering Library of Congress facilities. Please view that list here with attention to the column labeled “Office Buildings and LOC.” U.S. Capitol Police reserves the right to deny entry to any person in possession of an item(s) listed. Information on U.S. Capitol Police security screening for visitors with disabilities, medical conditions, medical devices, or medications may be viewed here. U.S. Capitol Police screening policy is subject to change at any time without advance notification.

All bags will be subject to a visual inspection upon exiting a Library of Congress facility.
